What a board and what a chapter we have! When we decided to
have a political forum for our October meeting, we asked around
for ideas and input. With many of the leading politicians and candidates
from our area expected to speak to us at this chapter meeting, we wanted
everything to be special. Board members came up with a half a dozen ideas
for new venues at which to hold this event. When former chapter president
Jason Platzer came up with a substantial sponsorship from BWI, we decided on
the VFW in Apopka. We could not have brought this idea to fruition without the
help of Mark Byrd and State Representative Bryan Nelson, who will be our
emcee for the evening. We are planning on a meeting that will show our elected
representatives the professionalism and strength of our industries and that we
have a unified voice within FNGLA. The next step to making this event a success
is your attendance. We need to have a great turnout from our members and
peers to show we do care what goes on at the county, state, and federal levels.
Please plan to attend this very important meeting on Monday, Oct. 13.
November and December are going to be fun months. Casino Night will be
held Nov. 14 and board member JP Polechak has taken the reigns on this annual
event and is steering it in a new direction that should take it to the next level.
This year we plan on having professionals on the tables, with the board in our
red bow ties helping out and making sure everything runs smoothly and everybody
has a good time. We will still have the reverse draw and the silent auction
and we will be contacting you soon about helping us out with these. The
Christmas party will be held Dec. 16 at Leu Gardens. Plan on a great party at
this beautiful garden location.
Let’s not forget The Landscape Show. The board put together a topiary for
display in the main hall to show our support for IFAS and all they do for our
various industries. Utilizing the creative juices of board members Kathy
Greives, Jennifer Batson, and John Madison along with Dan Carmi from
Milestone, our group came up with the ideas, design, and construction of our
display. We looked great with our gator supporting the industry!
The chapter also took on the job of moving out all the plants left
on the show floor. We are holding these plants for our fall and spring
plant sales that help benefit our chapter scholarship programs. At this
time we plan on a fall plant sale in the Celebration area and a spring
plant sale in Winter Garden.
We are planning meetings for 2009 that we hope will be of benefit
to all of us. If you have ideas or suggestions as to venues, events or
anything else, let us hear from you. The board is working hard to
make sure we provide opportunities and information that we all need
for us to grow and thrive in our businesses. Let us know what you
think.
