FNGLA Certified Landscape Technician

What is it?

FNGLA's Certified Landscape Technician (FCLT) program is a hands-on certification designed to measure the skills of practicing landscape installation technicians.

  • Targets employees of landscape contracting; design/build; installation firms; and state, county and municipal government employees.
  • One year of prior industry work experience is required
  • Valid for a three-year period.
  • Although recommended, no prior training is required.

Requires 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to maintain this certification.

Onsite FCLT testing is offered statewide at various times throughout the year. See upcoming testing dates here.

Prior registration is required 30 days prior to scheduled exam. To apply to take the exam, fill out an online registration form.

About the FCLT Exam

FNGLA's FCLT exam is a day-long exam which encompasses the following field exam sections:

  • Plant ID
  • Plan Layout
  • Tree Installation
  • Pruning
  • Palm Banding & Propping
  • Grading and Drainage
  • Irrigation
  • Equipment Operation
  • Job Evaluation


Each FCLT field exam section must be passed with a minimum 70% in order to earn the FCLT certification.

Exam Fees

$225 for FNGLA members and $425 for nonmembers.
