8 am — 5:00 pm — TPIE Road Show
Garden Center and Interiorscape tours have combined to form a new and stronger networking experience. Two buses, both going to the same locations, are headed to Homestead, FL. Are you looking for a great networking opportunity? The new format offers customized information while attendees travel to their designated locations. One bus will concentrate on interiorscape issues and another bus will address garden center trends and merchandising ideas. Luncheon topic will be “How to Buy and Ship Foliage From Florida.” It’s a day jam-packed with plenty to see and learn. Tour locations are Sunshine Tropical Foliage, Pine Island Nursery, Plants In Design, and Greendale Nursery.
Stop 1 - Sunshine Tropical Foliage
The nursery has been in the tropical plant business for over 30 years. Don and Suzanne Broyles started in Monkton, Maryland with a wholesale and retail plant shop. The business moved to Homestead, Florida in 1980 where it evolved into a wholesale nursery growing tropical foliage to ship around the country.
The nursery operates on 20 acres which include stockfields, shadehouses and climate controlled greenhouses.
Stop 2 - Greendale Nursery
Greendale Nursery, Inc. was founded in 1985. They are primarily a wholesale nursery that ships foliage plants across the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
They are a full service company which offers services in locating plants, consolidating full trailer loads of overseas shipping and technical help in trouble shooting plant problems. Their clientele ranges from small retail florist, large full service garden centers, interiorscape service providers and large retailers in a variety of marketplaces.
Stop 3 - Plants In Design
A supplier of finished and pre-finished bromeliads and orchids to the resorts, florists, resellers and interiorscape designers, they have a 20-acre nursery in South Florida. They provide to customers throughout North America (including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Jamaica) as well as selected areas in South America.
The nursery has been in continuous operation for more than 25 years utilizing state of the art greenhouses, computerized irrigation systems and robotics that constitute the most technologically advanced facility of its type. Through on-going communication with hybridizers and laboratories worldwide, they respond to customers requests for timely access to new hybrid varieties for the distinctive look of novel colors and shapes.
Stop 4 - Pine Island Nursery Pine Island Nursery is a fifty acre family-owned and operated facility. The business began as a wholesale supplier of rare palms, fine indoor foliage, and citrus trees, but today’s product line is very different than that of three decades ago. The nursery now specializes solely in tropical fruit trees and primarily caters to commercial fruit growers in Florida. However, certifications are held for Texas, Arizona, California, and Europe, and the nursery remains an active exporter to commercial fruit growers and nurseries around the globe.
